Sickened and seething, I rest in repose. I'm broken and bleeding, In sanity's throes. I've loved and I've lost, I've hated and scorned. The scars have all faded, From the wounds that I've borne. But each drop of blood, And the lesson it sowed; I will never forget. My hate will never grow cold.
Through merciless censure, You sired this creature, The one you admonish, The one you reproach. I've given it freedom, A perpetual end, With a reason to want, And the means to encroach. My hate breathes, And it feeds, And it grows.
Here we are, Gods in flesh, Yet still we jest as men. Cast aside, Our greatest gift, For what's already been. Given wings, To lift our hearts, Yet self-ordained to fall. And sure enough, From what was lost, We've gained nothing at all.
Just some of the things I find myself in the midst of contemplating when I stay awake all night.
1. Religion allows decency through the promise of eternal mirth in Heaven, and encourages it through the threat of unending anguish and despondence in Hell. Self-Reflection allows decency by enabling you to perceive it's influence within yourself, and encourages it by enabling you to perceive it's influence within others.
